What Are My Basic Human Rights?

Lorene MarkowitzSeptember 27, 2023, ,

Human rights are the fundamental freedoms and protections that every person is entitled to no matter who they are or where they live. The UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) sets out 30 articles that outline our fundamental human rights.

These included civil liberties such as freedom of speech, political freedoms such as voting, social, cultural, and economic entitlements such as education. There are also articles regarding protections for women's safety and health care needs among others.

Some of the rights necessary to live are explained below.

Right To Life

The right to life is probably the most important of all our basic human rights because without it nothing else matters. No matter who you are or where you come from, nobody should be able to kill you just for being different than them.

Right To Liberty

The right to liberty means that everyone has a right to live their lives free from fear or violence. Every single person has the right to liberty and security themselves.

Freedom From Slavery

Sometimes we don’t get to live in peace with our families and friend because someone else is trying to take advantage of us or control us. Freedom from slavery ensures that no one can control you.

Freedom From Torture

If someone is doing something that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, it might be a violation of your freedom from torture rights. It means they have committed a crime against you.

Freedom of Opinion

Freedom of opinion means that everyone has the right to express their opinions and ideas without fear, even if these opinions are contrary to those in power.

Freedom of Expression

The right to freedom of expression is a human right that allows people to express their opinions and ideas without fear. It’s also one of the most important rights in our society because it lets us express ourselves.

Right to Education

The right to education is a fundamental human right. It means that all children, regardless of their gender, race, religion, or social status have the right to be educated. his includes children with disabilities who are entitled to special educational needs.

Right to Work

The right to work is a fundamental human right. It means that all humans, regardless of their gender, race, religion or social status have the right to work to earn a respectable living for themselves.

If someone breaks one of these rules, there should be a way for people to hold them accountable. This could mean going through the courts or reporting it to an official body like a police force or local council. Everyone has their own ideas about what justice means.
